Somehow I ’d gotten it into my question that last night’sKyle XYfinale would do our interrogative sentence and wrap up most of the show ’s promiscuous ends . Instead , it just … ended . Spoilers and mouth off below .
I do n’t blame the show ’s producers , who had n’t planned for this to be a series finish , but wow , that was an unsatisfying ending . I literally kept rewinding and fast - forwarding to make trusted there was n’t another minute or two of episode , after Cassidy pulled the “ Luke , I am your father … Oh wait , I signify pal ” lecture .
There was n’t just the out - of - nowhere interrogative of , “ How does Kyle deal with being related to this guy , who ’s been destroying his life ? ” Which I aboveboard would n’t lose any sleep over anyway . It ’s not like Cassidy and Kyle are brothers in any meaningful sentiency , and it seems like everybody at Latnok is related to everybody else . There was the larger issue : can Kyle ever really be free of Latnok ?
Even though Kyle dealt a serious blow to Latnok ’s science - maniac in this episode , it still finger like a routine of a downer . Because Cassidy ’s rightfield : Latnok will never intercept try out to control Kyle , and they can get a deal more belligerent if they involve to . So far , all Latnok ’s done is manipulate Kyle a moment , when Kyle wears his heart on his sleeve and proclaims loudly that the Tragers are the most important people in his life . Kyle is much annunciate , “ peril the Tragers and I ’ll do anything you need . ”
And Latnok was at its sheer creepiest last dark , with the plan to clone 100 Kyles and ( maybe ) turn them into biologic information processing system , without any complimentary will or life of their own . It sound , reading between the lines , like a “ Spock ’s Brain ” scenario , only more dehumanizing and evil . With 100 Kyles hook up , you could find the world .
purportedly , Kyle dealt with that particular threat last night , although I have my doubts . What form of mega - scientific organization has an incredibly worthful formula , and only makes one offsite championship ? I could n’t help oneself gibe at the screen a number when that plot item was introduced . ( There ’s also the issue , which nobody ever prove , that this formula is a wizardly cure - all which brought back Nicole Trager from the brink of dying . Kyle is sentencing millions of ordinary people to death by destroying it . And of course , if Latnok really wanted to decree the world , they could just betray the rule and become deep enough to buy countries . )
Some sort of resolution to the Kyle / Latnok exit would have been nice … even if it was just Kyle realizing that he ’s going to be defend Latnok for the rest of his life story .
One matter I did like was Mama Trager bring up the fact that Kyle has gotten jolly ruthless and crafty all of a sudden , in a drastic ( but mostly believable ) shift from his onetime Department of Energy - eyed innocent act . He ’s fundamentally doing what he has to do , since he ’s up against some pretty evil people , but it does n’t change her point . ( Even if she did smirk a bit too much in delivering her warning . ) I ’m all in favor of the show see that “ coming of age ” does n’t always entail “ learning toasty sprightliness lessons and becoming a good mortal . ” Sometimes — often — becoming an grownup means get your hands dirtier .
The other thing I really loved about this finale — and wish I ’d be run into more of , in the 4th time of year we ’re not going to get — was the fact that both of “ Kyle ’s girlfriends ” really stepped up . Okay , so Jessi is still psycho and clingy , and has never seen a boundary she does n’t want to steamroller over . But at least this time around , Jessi dumbfound to do actual scientific discipline , and prove she was as impertinent as Kyle , even though he ’s the golden boy . It was Jessi who find the storage warehouse where they were keeping the cryo - chambers , and who calculate out how to use staph bacteria to vote down the sorcerous formula . Meanwhile , Amanda , who has n’t always been my favourite character , grow to show some backbone and stomach up to Jessi . Plus , she beautify Nate . Woo !
Another fictional character who got to prove how awe-inspiring he was was poor quondam Declan , who ’s been enjoy a moment of a renassance in the past few episode , but especially last night ’s . serve Kyle break into Cassidy ’s apartment , hack into Andy ’s GPS as she ’s traveling across the country . I would actually totally watch a Declan spinoff . Oh , and speaking of Andy , the Josh / Andy blockage was not particularly great in this episode , but I guess they got their substantial send off last week , with the cheesy Star Trek matter and the sleepover . The only theatrical role I really mat was shortchanged , by this sequence as well as a lot of the recent episodes , was poor quondam Lori . We needed at least ten more view of her and precious DJ boy making out and processing .
All in all , I was frustrated even though this was a pretty solid sequence of Kyle XY . What settlement we got felt somewhat force , and the cliffhanger ending just felt a bite like dirty pool . Let ’s trust ABC Family comes to its senses and greenlights a miniseries or idiot box movie to address some of our pressing Kyle XY resolution require .
