An insider tells io9 that Guillermo Del Toro , the fiend - ghost director behind Hellboy II and Pan ’s Labyrinth , is in spades not doing Hellboy III . ostensibly up until a few weeks ago , he was talking about a third installmentas a possibility but now this looks very unbelievable indeed . lose Del Toro could destroy the franchise — but could get the film director working earlier on a very cool project slat for 2010 .
Hellboy II is coming in July , and prevue make it obvious thatthe moving-picture show will be full of Del Toro ’s signature languid crawlies . It ’s laborious to imagine a third Hellboy without Del Toro at the helm , given that a flare for creative ocular design are the bedrock of the first movie and Mike Mignola ’s freaky - dark comic book . At the same time , I ’m glad if that means Del Toro will move onto other projects sooner . He ’s get some interesting stuff up his arm . . . such as a flick version of H.P. Lovecraft ’s ancient exotic war story “ At the Mountains of Madness , ” due out in 2010 .

“ slew ” is my preferent Lovecraft taradiddle , and contains not just Cthulhu ’s Spawn but also the winged , tentacled crustacian Mi - Go and the starfish - channelize Old Ones . Plus , the gigantic , polymorphic Shuggoths ! I know Del Toro will get it on just what to do with all those dotty monsters .
