The first proper preview for Doctor Who time of year eightpremieredover the weekend , and it was chock full of colossus , automaton , and a Time Lord identicalness crisis . We pored over every frame , and here ’s what we learned ! Warning : Spoilers and speculation ahead ..
So as you could see in the icon up top , the TARDIS is on fire , exploding and generally move bollock . We also see some shots of the TARDIS flying through an unusually disconsolate swirl — so dark-skinned I could n’t even get a proper screencap of it . This may relate to the Doctor ’s annunciation that he ’s made many mistake in his 2000 twelvemonth life , and he intend to do something about that — by going into iniquity .
Also , it seems like Steven Moffat ’s captivation with eye and vision has n’t changed at all — the house trailer contains a closeup of a Dalek eyepiece , plus Clara with her eyes closed and then open in shock , and an extreme closeup of someone ’s heart ( the Doctor ’s ? ) , with the pupil expatiate :
There ’s a lot of Dalek action happening in this dawdler , include a Dalek ship fire upon a small scoutship :
And a whole army of Daleks — remark that the topnotch - tall revamp Daleks from Matt Smith ’s first time of year have evidently been phased out for good :
One Dalek announces more or less oddly that life returns and life prevails . Which does n’t seem like a very Dalek - y view .
Also , here ’s Clara , go down a hall and add the sonic screwdriver . hardened photos from episode 9 show her wielding the transonic screwdriver inside some kind of burrow where people have been vanish .
The Doctor ’s acute stare is in full force . Note the puritanical neckband :
Who is this android with the half - uncover font and the flamethrower hand ? I ’m suppose it ’s from the first installment , which takes post in Victorian London and purportedly includes robots . include one character named “ Half - expression . ”
This guy sort of looks like a robot Silurian period :
And here ’s the monster that we saw inset photosa while back , with the two eyestalks . It ’s apparently wearing a spacesuit , and is tied up . Note that it ’s in some kind of vault full of rubber depositary boxes , which made me think of the episode call “ Time Heist ” ( which is rumour to involve a savings bank robbery of some sort . )
Clara is thrown by some sort of plosion — and this looks to me like a chemistry science lab . Maybe at Coal Hill School , where Clara is working as a teacher ?
Some kind of cant battle take topographic point in a liberal modern facility , with a logotype on the back wall that look like a “ T. ”
Madame Vastra is n’t too surprised to satisfy another version of the Doctor . “ Here we go again , ” she says .
Clara is falling into some kind of bottomless pit thingy :
A dinosaur stalks Victorian London !
A mediaeval robot — plausibly from the “ Robots of Sherwood Forest ” episode feature Robin Hood . And robots .
The Doctor razz a knight through the streets in his nightgown . Probably also from the strait-laced season undoer .
Clara face up someone wear a red hood . curiosity if there ’s any signification to that brooch she ’s wearing ?
The Doctor on some kind of spaceship , being caught in some kind of artificial gravity loser and possibly sucked out an air lock …
The TARDIS is flying past what look like a foul tear in the fabric of world .
And here ’s the bit where the Doctor involve Clara if he ’s a good valet de chambre … and separately , in a voiceover on the scene where she ’s holding the transonic screwdriver , she confesses she does n’t cognise who the Doctor is any more .
