Jeremiah W.T. :

Dear Postman ,

This is a interrogation that has been rattle around in my head for a longsighted time , but it just resurfaced when someone of late necessitate about the opening of a Ms. Marvel moving picture or TV show . I recently discover that deed and fall for it much the same agency many other referee have , and I agree , it deserves all the praise it gets and more . But here ’s my enquiry : Why do comic fans ( and Scripture fans in ecumenical ) feel that a subject wo n’t be fully realized until it ’s adapted for the screen ? My friend and I used to talk about this , and we noted that it ( almost ) never happens to other genres . That is , you never learn people saying , “ Oh , I ca n’t wait until that Song dynasty is adjust into a painting , ” or “ Wow , that carving would make an awful opera . ” And yet , any time a risible or book gets pop , people leap to the conversation about who should play whom in the inevitable heavy budget adaption . Is this some sorting of John Grisham effect where every novel is really just a discourse for a screenplay ?

Do n’t get me awry — I have a go at it take in Thor and Hulk tear it up on the self-aggrandising screen , but I ’m bother by the implicit assumption that a narration is n’t in full realized until it ’s yield in pic . Comic book of account are ( or should be ) more than storyboards for eventual action sequences on screen . Hell , how many sentence do we hear fans plain about what the movie was n’t able-bodied to do because of time constraint or other limitations of the spiritualist ? I do n’t desire to go all Alan Moore here , but when we revere moving picture as the “ highest ” form of the story , do n’t we implicitly devalue the funnies themselves ?

First , briefly , you ca n’t really liken lifelike nontextual matter that hold a narrative with artistic creation that does n’t . Neither carving nor painting tell a story ( do n’t get into the semantics , you bed what I think ) and thus they ca n’t be as well translated into each other as say , a book , a comedian , a movie or a TV show can . It ’s the story inside the rule book / cartoon strip / etc that gets told in a new medium , that ’s all .

But I ’m not certain how many masses who say they need to see such - and - such comic become such - and - such moving picture truly feel that the moving picture legalize the story in a way the comedian does n’t . Oh , I ’m certain there are a few people out there , but for instance , I am 100 % convinced that Doownuahsmai from last week , who was eager to see a Ms. Marvel alive - action flick , does n’t experience that the currently great comic is somehow a pale impersonation of a potential picture . Instead , he / she feels like the comic is awful , and he / she wants to share that awesomeness with the human race — and a big - budget movie is one of the well-fixed ways to achieve that .

But there ’s also a more selfish , often unconscious understanding fans need movie and show based on their favorite stories . When we read / watch / take in a great floor , we have an experience that ca n’t be retroflex again . The story thrill us in a room no subsequent viewing or readings can — which is ok , because that ’s how thing exploit . But seeing the account again in a new medium is usually the closest we can come to re - experience the first time we enjoyed it .

For instance , take Game of Thrones devotee . surely when I was reading the books , well before the HBO show was announce , I was woolgather of a wonderful , ripe , decently budget TV serial based on the series , and I feel confident I ’m not alone in that . But I think you would have an extremely hard time tracking down the one contrary asshole who would willingly say , out tawdry , that the account book were the “ lesser ” way to distinguish this epic story , and necessitate the TV show to do it properly .

And that ’s what most fans , I think , are really sound out when they demand live - action movies and shows and so forth or their darling fiber and franchises . Sure there will be some people who snobbily suggest a story has to be told in another medium , but those people are in general snobs . Certainly , there are some stories can be told better in different mediums — sometimes you have a story to get out , but you do n’t have the agency or the money to do it the path you truly desire — but nine times out of 10 I look most fans just want to share what they have sex to as many people as possible , and big - budget movies and tv set shows are ordinarily the full way to do that .

Dead Power

Jared :

Hey Postman ,

Long time lecturer , I liked the walking dead banter in this weeks post . nonplus me thinking of a drawing off a did a while ago , back when TWD first came apon michonne …

Apple2025macbookairm4

So they come in across this ingenious method of issue off walkers hands / weaponry and their gloomy jaw / teeth – makes them into these harmless body of sempiternal DOE . 1 ) She uses them as sort of pets / camo but why did nobody else exploit this behaviour ? 2 ) Could you not at some level utilise these zombies to big businessman stuff by walk round in circles ?

3 ) Or why did n’t folk just cast the prairie on braggy contraptions like the one I drew above ?

1 ) Because it ’s weird and gross . Now , allow , if being weird and gross break me an advantage in the zombie Revelation , I would be as weird and flagrant as I could be . But as an consultation appendage of either the comic or the show , it would be very , very creepy-crawly to watch Rick and the others top two dozen or so armless , jawless zombies around . Remember , being covered in zombie guts and gore is even better camouflage , but Rick and the others also do n’t do that because it ’s — await for it — super - weird and earthy .

Second Screen Portable 15 Monitor

2 ) You could theoretically practice zombies as a ability reference , but I ’m not sure you could get them to take the air in a round , like to power a stone pulverisation or something . zombi wander aimlessly unless they sense something to wipe out , which means you’re able to only dependably make them go forward . I ca n’t think of a means to give a mathematical group of zombies a undivided target that would inspire them all to travel in a circle instead of a full-strength line . You could put a zombie on a treadmill , and hang up a baby in front of it , and then tackle that energy , but even then you ’d require a lot of zombie on a destiny of salt mine ( while endangering a lot of babies ) to mother enough energy to ply the electrical energy for a reasonably sized home .

3 ) The other trouble with the zombie - mill is a job that your avowedly amazing contraption has in spade — it would take a mess of time and resources to ramp up such a thing , and mass in the zombie apocalypse do n’t have much of either . This sort of twist would be something that a group of hoi polloi design 20 class after the Revelation hits , once they ’ve had a hazard to recover . Which , by the means , is a zombie movie I ’d very much like to see .

The Tooth Hurts

Devster :

Bruce Banner grows quite large when becoming the Hulk , admit his head .

If Bruce Banner had dental oeuvre , say a minor pit filled in his later teen , what happens when he becomes the Hulk ? Do they fall out because the cavity became bigger ? Does he have to strike the dentist after each incident ?

Hp 17 Touchscreen Laptop

trust he does n’t get accentuate in that dentist chair …

Hulk ’s tooth raise along with the rest of him — which is good , because the idea of the Hulk with a set of flyspeck , Bruce Banner - sized teeth in his mouth sounds terrifying . But whatever dental issues Bruce Banner has , they ’re cleared up when he turns into the Hulk , and remain rifle when he turn back . retrieve in Avengers , Banner says he essay to commit suicide but “ the other cat spat out the bullet ” ? ( I sense pretty confident there ’s been a time or two in the comics where Bruce Banner was wounded , Hulked out , and come back healed , but I ca n’t remember a specific representative . Anybody ? ) If call on into the Hulk bring around a gunshot to the head , thenthe cavity creepshave no chance .

This Town Needs an Enema

David :

It ’s clear-cut you have a love / hate relationship with FOX ’s Gotham , often citing the campiness and ridiculousness of it . But could n’t in fact be polish a brightness on how half-baked the Batman universe in reality is ? I mean Batman is nothing but a crowd of mad people , including Batman , in a urban center that seems to exist alone to accommodate madness .

Batman and his villains are crazy , yes , but they ’re more mad haunt : with fighting offense , brain-teaser , stealth , etc . Whatever their harm , they have an order of business they work towards , include the Joker . And beyond their obsessions , they lean to make decisions based on some kind of intellectual or ethos , at least for the most part .

How To Watch French Open Live On A Free Channel

The characters on Gotham are n’t obsessed , they ’re just weirdoes . None of them seem to have any hold on world , not even Gordon . They ’re frequently quite stupid . Hell , a spate of the time they do n’t even talk like regular human beings .

Or to put it another way : The characters on Gotham are n’t crazy , it ’s the show ’s writers . They keep to make some of the most eccentric , inexplicable conclusion I can conceive of , and they pressure their character to work the same .

The Right Fantastic

Brian P. :

I had a random hypothesis regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe with regard to Fox and the Fantastic Four dealership ( alliteration not designed ) , so I calculate I ’d see what your thoughts on it were .

The rebooted FF film is coming in the next few months , and ( at least to me ) , it really does n’t look that good . Beyond that , though , it also does n’t sound like it ’s get to perform all that well , box office - wise . ( The lack of furtherance and/or publicity from Fox – especially compare to , say , Avengers 2 or even Star Wars 7 – does n’t really seem to speak too highly of their confidence in the moving-picture show , at least from where I ’m sit . )

Hostinger Coupon Code 15% Off

On the other deal , Fox has expressed interest in develop one or more TV series out of the X - Men franchise ; however , it sounds like they ca n’t proceed with those plans without Marvel ’s approval .

So , given all that , how plausible / probable does this scenario sound ? The FF movie underperforms at the box part . Fox or Marvel then bid the other party a swap : the FF rights for license to make the X - Men TV show(s ) . ( Possibly with some cash throw in to sweeten the deal . ) Do you think this could / would / will happen ? manifestly , Marvel ’s not get the 10 - Men rights back any time soon , but I think they ’d be more than eager to get the FF back ( particularly now that they somewhat have Spider - Man ) , and ( unless the new FF movie does really well ) I can ideate Fox being willing to drop off it back to Marvel for the right toll . Given how much better the X - human beings are doing for Fox than the FF , I ’d think the power to amplify the former into television could be ( at least part of ) that cost .

What do you think ? Am I completely off my rocking chair , or could things play out like that ? ( Or are there any underlying factual erroneous belief in the hypothesis ? )

Burning Blade Tavern Epic Universe

thing could indeed encounter out like that . Since Fox only has the X - Men movie rightfulness , Marvel finally has themselves a snatch of purchase in their dialogue with Fox , which could be useful in renegotiating the Fantastic Four movie licensing agreement .

But there are a few result . The first is that The Fantastic Four would have to be incredibly terrible for Fox to find that giving up the moving-picture show rights to the team is the right move , especially before the flick even come out . I mean , they would have to be pretty much dead sure that the upcoming movie will bomb , and flush it heavily enough that they no longer believe the dimension to be profitable in the futurity , meaning it no longer draw fiscal sense for them to bother with franchise . Even if they have a downcast touch of dread that FF is going to tank , chances are they ’ll at least await to see how the film does first . Just in case they ’re haywire and multitude enjoy it .

Second , it ’s not like an X - Men TV serial publication is n’t partially to Marvel ’s benefit , anyways . Even if Marvel does n’t co - raise an X - Men show — which is highly unlikely – they ’d still stand to make money off of it , with minimum effort on their part . And it ’s not like Marvel has any chance of getting the ten - Men moving picture license back ; Fox is ca-ca plenty of money off those , so it has no indigence to give it up . Marvel might as well try and make some easy Johnny Cash by approving a show .

Amazon Arzopa

Basically , I do n’t see Marvel refusing to agree to sanction an X - Men video show just to see how The Fantastic Four flick turns out , solely in Hope that Fox has screw it up so naughtily they ’ll be willing to give the property up later . Certainly it ’s possible , but I recall it ’s much more probable Marvel will agree to the X - Men TV hatful , and then if the FF movie bombs , Fox will try out to cut a partnership like Sony did with Spider - Man — at least before they ’re willing to offer to sell back the team . And if the movie does well , then , Fox probably wo n’t give it up at all . ( For the record book , I believe the first new FF movie will be a moderate succeeder , and the second one a dud . )

Southern Cross Comfort

Jesse :

Hello Mr. Postman . Hope the future finds you well .

I ’ve been re - watching Robotech and enjoying every mo of it . That is , until I have to Robotech : Masters , the second installment in the trilogy . While I do n’t beware the series as much as many Robotech sports fan , I understand why it is universally disliked .

Sonos Speaker Move 2

Reading the Wikipedia article on Super Dimension Century Orguss , I found out that ab initio this was going to be the third installment in the Robotech trilogy until Genesis Climber Mospeada replaced it .

That got me thinking : What other LXXX anime series could Carl Macek have used rather of Southern Cross that would have successfully bridged the Macross Saga with the New Generation and have been more positively receive than Robotech : Masters ?

The aura of Carl Macek and Harmony Gold back in the ’ 80s is that they were crazy and creative enough to middling much fit any Japanese anime TV series into Robotech . Hell , they probably could have made Voltron study , even if it would have been extremely strange part of the saga ( although I suppose King Zarkon could have made for a pretty convincing Zentraedi ) .

Apple2025macbookairm4

But as for the best ’ 80s anime to replace Southern Cross ? Well , Orguss is the obvious answer , as it was made by Studio Nue , and had the same look and the more scifi , less fantastical feel of Macross . To be more specific , it was more of a military dramatic event like Gundam or Macross than a one of the many space fancy anime boob tube series of the’80s , where automaton fight affair with steel .

So the other one that comes now to mind is Votoms , which is darker than Macross , but still has the same military / scifi bent that could be adapt into the Robotech saga . But I palpate like I ’m forgetting an even more obvious choice . Any suggestions ?

Ewok n’ Roll

Jonah B. :

My interrogative come to to ewoks . I have some love for ewoks , which might be explain by the fact that I witness the Ewok Adventure before I saw Return of the Jedi , or by the fact that I was under 10 when I saw Jedi for the first time . Either way , I care have the Ewoks as a part of ROTJ , yet I ’m also well mindful that many out there have an irrational hatred of all things Ewok . I was think about this the other day , and I do think that they play an authoritative persona by act the billions ( trillion ? ) of people who must be out there in the Star Wars existence that have nothing to do with either the conglomerate or the rebellion . They do n’t care about galactic politics , all they care about is there are mass invading their land , and they need them off . This is one of the few examples ( at least in the film ) of an full species that has no pursuit in who wins as long as they get leave behind alone . Really , there ’s no guarantee that they would have even side with the greyback if they had n’t been flim-flam into thinking that c3po was a god , so … am I off here ? Can there be a material originate up reason for me to like ewoks ? Or am I just trying to take for on to my childhood ?

Well , the rationality George Lucas always gave for having the Ewoks as an entire part of the Empire ’s defeat in RotJ is because he liked the thematic idea of a crude , seemingly innocent foreign race with virtually no engineering defeating the well trained , better staffed and better armed bad guys . This , unluckily , is kind of nonsense , because to really make the Empire representative of the hubris of over - trust on militarization applied science , te other movies should have stressed the Rebels ’ deficiency of engineering so as to set the stage , which it did n’t . So it does n’t puzzle out in the regard .

Second Screen Portable 15 Monitor

The material reasonableness for the Ewoks , as acknowledge by pretty much everyone else , is that George wanted some good guys who were super , A-one merchandisable . He got ’em . So in that good sense , it ’s kind of hard to make a strong parameter for loving them as an adult .

However , there are two things you need to remember : 1 ) you were a kid . Unless you happened to be present at that Lucasfilm meeting where Lucas demand an alien raceway he could make a long ton of doll for , you ’d have no reason to guess at their mercenary nature . If you liked them then , it was genuine , and if you still like them now , it ’s based on your original , completely valid assessment , and it ’s all right .

2 ) The Ewoks are badasses . Not only did they take down a much better armed military force out , include their massive vehicles of destruction , with literally nothing but control stick and stones , but they also cook their enemies alive and eat them . It ’s what they were going to do to Han Solo . Why would n’t they do the same to all the delicious , yummy Imperial soldiers left after the conflict of Endor ?
