Cillian Murphyhas nothing but love for his wife — and he wasn’t afraid to show it as he won big at the 2024Golden Globes.
The star won best actor in a motion picture, drama, for his role inOppenheimer. Murphy beat outBradley CooperforMaestro,Leonardo DiCaprioforKillers of the Flower Moon,Colman DomingoforRustin,Barry KeoghanforSaltburnandAndrew ScottforAll of Us Strangers.
As he took the stage to accept his award, Murphy asked the crowd if he had lipstick on his nose from his wife Yvonne McGuinness after his name was announced. “First question, do I have lipstick all over my nose?” he asked. “I was gonna leave it.”
He then continued, “I knew the first time I walked on a Chris Nolan set it was different. The level or rigor of the level of dedication, the complete lack of any seating options for actors, I was in the hands of a visionary director, a master.”

“I want to thank Chris and Emma for having complete faith in me for 20 years. One of the most beautiful things about being an actor is you can’t do it on your own. And we have the most incredible ensemble cast in this movie,” he went on. “They were magic and some of them are here today, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Gary Oldman. Thank you for carrying me and holding me through this movie.”
“Thank you to Donna Langley and everyone at Universal for believing in this movie since the beginning. To all my fellow nominees, if you’re Irish or not, you’re all legends, your stunning work, i salute you,” Murphy concluded. “To my mom, the rest of my team, thank you so much. To my family, I’m the luckiest man and I love you.”

However, it’s the 49-year-old multihyphenate’s sixth Globe nod overall, as he’s also in the running for directingMaestro— like he was in 2019 for the Lady Gaga-starringA Star Is Born. Cooper also co-wrote the script with Josh Singer, and produced the film alongsideMartin Scorsese,Steven Spielbergand more.

Scorsese’s latest,Killers of the Flower Moon, recreates the real-lifeserial killings of members of the Osage Nationin 1920s Oklahoma. Alongside fellow Globe nomineesLily GladstoneasMollie KyleandRobert De Niroas William King Hale, DiCaprio, 49, plays the gullible — yet culpable — conspirator Ernest Burkhart.
It’s the Oscar winner’s 14th acting nomination from the Golden Globes, more nods than any other performer in the running this year. He’s taken home statuettes in 2005 forThe Aviator, in 2014 forThe Wolf of Wall Streetand in 2016 forThe Revenant.
