A police section in Britain has started using Amazon ’s Alexa to broadcast day-after-day briefings in people ’s home , with the longterm finish of reach the smart assistant a fundamental part of the constabulary force .
“ The study that we ’re doing now is first and foremost our power to tug out information to the populace that they may want and need , ” Rob Flanagan , head of Innovation for Lancashire Police , told Gizmodo . “ So this may be escape somebody , it may be people who are wanted , it may be to alarm them to thing that are going on in the local community . “ There would be one for the public and then there will be something else we can use internally , ” he tell . “ The copper [ would ] be able to say ‘ give me the warrant contingent for Joe Blocks ’ and then it would study back that person ’s endorsement and details and send the selective information to the offices mobile gadget that they have on their someone . ”
In the futurity , he imagine a small equipment could be either in a police auto or on their person , like a body photographic camera . When officers commence their shift key , they could be briefed on the day ’s events via Alexa . The same if there ’s an on-going situation and officer at multiple location need update .
“ The technology is there for us to be capable to do it , but apparently it takes a long time for us to develop something that we can put into use , ” he suppose .
For now , Flanagan says , the biggest vault is datum security . Police databases comprise a wealth of sensitive information , including details on sentence , open cases , and crisis response plan . A hack would be calamitous . A future gadget would have to be connected to the swarm , incessantly updating , but would require safeguard .
“ [ What we need to know is ] is there going to be a safe and dependable way for us to store some of our datum in the cloud so that we can then apply some of these technologies … to turn in entropy to our officers much faster , ” he explain .
After the pilot terminate in March , Flanagan plans to relay the result to other UK police departments , with the end of force the fresh idea forward .
