TheWSJ follows uptheiroriginal story , adding things we hear , like that Google might partner with a carrier finally and thatthey talked to Verizon and T - Mobileabout it . The Leontyne Price is still tough .

Which is what matters at this point , really . The WSJ continues to assert it ’ll be sold “ directly to consumer ” ( accent mine ) and Google will “ market ” it , so let ’s assume it is n’t just a dev or template phone , but a genuine consumer period of play . Even with Google ’s tremendous weight , a $ 600 — or even $ 400 — unlatched phone does face some rough reality , even if it does send a strong kind subject matter as TheGoogle Phone . If Google subsidizes it themselves , though , making it in reality low-cost in a “ we just want everybody to use the internet ( and therefore , Google ) ” variety of play , it ’d be as immense as everybody panting about it says it would be . If not , well , you jazz .

Sprint saying they ’d support this patronage framework is interesting , BTW — my surmise at this point , is that Verizon said no because it likes being deeply involved in , and tied to , the phones on its web . In Verizon ’s earth , it ’s all about the web , not the phone , so it ’s easy to see where being reduced to a mere declaration armed service would n’t sit well with its sense of self .
Still singular , though , are these two bits , that “ Google focused more on contrive a phone in the past class , one person conversant with its cause say , as the company battle to get some partners to have its package ” and that “ Google designed virtually the intact software system experience behind the headphone , from the applications that run on it to the feeling and feel of each filmdom , they added . ” ‘ Cause , uh , have n’t they designed the experience and applications on every stock Android phone ? And it ’s unearthly still , causeEngadget ’s close - up photosshow 2.1 , which , on the face of it , looks a whole mint like 2.0 , just with a few new port constituent ( more desktop display using a webOS scorecard - similar user interface above , and 3D flourishes ) . The only thing “ more Google - y ” is that it comes with Goggles by default . So , um , “ huh , ” I say to the WSJ .
We keep take heed first quarter of next yr is when Google ’s unleash this thing , so even if Google ’s vivid plan — a sekrit phone in the deal of a thousand people — holds rigorous , we ’ll know before long enough what ’s really go on here . [ WSJ , Engadget ]
